FLA earns K68.7m ahead of fundraising gala dinner

Football Legends Association (FLA) has already raised K68.7 million of the targeted K250 million for its upcoming fundraising gala dinner at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe on August 29.

FLA board chairperson Jim Kalua said the funds have been raised through sale of tickets and tables.

He said: “We are encouraged with the overwhelming support that we have received from the corporate world, our partners, well-wishers and members.

“We have sold about eight tables to the corporates amounting to K49.5 million from members’ tickets and contributions, we have sourced K19.28 million.”

The tables are in three categories, namely: diamond which is pegged at K10 million, platinun at K5 million and gold at K3 million.

Kalua said they are targeting to sell all the tickets by the third week of this month.

“We will also be unveiling a big sponsor for the event in due course,” he said.

The FLA boss said proceeds from the initiative will be channeled towards medical insurance scheme renewal, their trip to Zambia for the Four Nations Tournament in December, the association’s operations and skills development programmes.

He also said their new replicas, which include jerseys, tracksuits and golf shirts have hit the market, but they will be officially unveiled at the event where an auction will also be conducted.

Meanwhile, Kalua said Kulogomba Media Printing has provided them  with  billboard at Crossroads Roundabout in Lilongwe at a cost of K3.85 million to help publicise the event.

“VK Marketing has also offered us a billboard at Bingu National Stadium  costing K2.85 million for  a similar purpose

Meanwhile, FLA general secretary Gomezgani Mchawi has said preparations for their annual general meeting scheduled for earlier the same day at Pearl Conference Centre are at an advanced stage.

“It will provide us an opportunity to review our activities, successes and challenges as well as financial performance in the past year,” he said.
